Harriet Newcombe.

Editor

Hello! I’m Harriet, born and bred in Portsmouth but now residing in Cornwall. I graduated from the

University of Edinburgh with a degree in Philosophy and English Literature with dreams of becoming

a theatre producer. However, I graduated in 2020 so had to put that on hold and be a Civil Servant

for a while. I have finally escaped that job and am now building my experience again in arts and

literature, which is where editing for rrramble comes in! Theatre and film are my passions, and

nothing brings me more joy then going to see a show or film and then critically dissecting it over a

drink.

What was the last book you didn’t manage to finish?

I have no loyalty whatsoever when it comes to books – if I’m not invested, I will put it down. I didn’t

manage to finish The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara, I don’t even think I have a good

reason as to why. I just couldn’t get on board with it.

If you could have written one play/novel/poem/song, what would it be and why?

There are SO MANY. I am constantly in awe of the talent some people have. I think the time I

thought this most recently was after a reread of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun. It’s just such a

beautiful and heartfelt book. Once I finished it, I think I just lay there in peace.

What upcoming media are you the most excited about right now?

Champion by Candice-Carty Williams. I know it’s not out until next year and it kills me that I have to

wait so long to watch it. She is an incredible author and I am so thrilled she’s been given this

opportunity to do screenwriting.

Who would play you in a film of your life?

Hopefully Florence Pugh. She is another person who I am in awe of how talented they are. Anyone

who can get me to root for Amy in Little Women deserves all the awards.
