Eleanor Davis

they/them

My name is Eleanor. I'm originally from Essex but I made the classic move of going to university at UEA and never leaving Norfolk! Except for a brief return to the badlands in 2020, Norwich has been my home for more than 6 years and I love it. Since graduating with a degree in History, I've worked as a tutor and a university administrator, but my dream has always been to write. I'm particularly interested in theatre, music and horror films.

Have you ever heard a song that feels like it HAD to be written about you? What was it and why?

Janine - David Bowie. It perfectly encapsulates the fear and vulnerability of opening up to someone when there are parts of yourself that you keep hidden away, even from yourself.

If you could have written one novel, what would it be and why?

If We Were Villains - M.L. Rio. This book emotionally eviscerated me. Everything from the characterisation to the pacing to the plot is perfect. I couldn't sleep the night I finished reading it as I couldn't stop thinking about it. It's one of those books that lives up to the hype and I am so angry (in a good way) that I wasn't the one to write it.

What’s your most special theatre experience?

In February 2020, I saw Waitress, one of my favourite musicals, at the Adelphi Theatre. Hearing Sara Bareilles sing She Used to Be Mine gave me goosebumps.

What’s a poem that you can recite on demand?

Sonnet 116 - William Shakespeare. "Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds." I'm a major Shakespeare nerd and I won't apologise. This poem is so beautiful that I once had a dream that I used it for my wedding vows - and I was single at the time!
